Can all quilts be called Art Quilts?
Can you call a traditionally pieced quilt an art quilt?
If you can hang it on the wall it’s an Art Quilt Right?
When I started writing this post, my first thought was.
No, not all quilts are art quilts or even art…
But as I began writing my point of view changed
All Quilts are a form of art.
When you create a quilt, you are choosing just the right fabrics, patterns and colors to create something special. You are being creative…being an artist. When you create a quilt . . You are being creative...being an artist. Click To Tweet
It doesn’t matter if it’s for a nap quilt, a table runner, or one prominently displayed in a gallery.
It is a form of art.
When I posed this question to my family, my Son had this to say:
It’s all art but I think it’s the intent, if it’s made as a quilt – it’s a quilt.
If the purpose is hanging it on the wall, it becomes art”
What is Art?
The definition of Art
the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.
The things we find beautiful and appealing are different for all of us.
Some will call a canvas splashed with a streak of paint – Art.
Who am I to say it’s not?
A traditional quilt, hung on the wall . . .
What do you think?
The art quilt or the quilt used for art, is there a difference?
